Uzbekistan plans to launch the production of a vaccine against coronavirus, the Ministry of Health of the republic said.

On September 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the city of Saryagash in Turkestan province, Kazakhstan, where he held a working meeting with the first president of this country, Nursultan Nazarbayev, the press service of the Uzbek President said in a statement.

The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan said what the country is doing to participate in the vaccination against COVID-19. In August, a member of the headquarters for the fight against coronavirus, Rustam Ikramov, reported that Uzbekistan is studying the possibility of using vaccines from Russia and China.

Shukhrat Ganiev has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the development of the agrarian and food sectors in place of the late Deputy PM Uktam Barnoev. Prior to that, he had served as the Fergana province governor.

On September 23, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Education Bill into Law. The Bill was passed by the Legislative Chamber on May 19 and was approved by the Senate on August 7.

The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of development of agrarian and food spheres, Uktam Isayevich Barnoev, died at the age of 56, UzA reported. A source of Gazeta.uz in the government said that the politician had been undergoing treatment in Germany for the last week. A board has now been organized to return his body from a German hospital to Uzbekistan.

According to official figures, the number of active cases is 3,279, with 259 patients in critical condition. "As of September 16, 23:30 in Uzbekistan, the number of cases of coronavirus is at 49,162," the Ministry of Health said.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a congratulatory message the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, Yoshihide Suga, on his election as Prime Minister of Japan, the presidential press service reported.
