Uzbekistan plans to double its current pace of housing construction by 2040, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his wishes on the Construction Workers' Day.
Official figures from the message highlighted that the country had built 647,000 apartments in recent years, with 135,000 units completed last year alone. The construction sector, along with building materials manufacturing and auxiliary industries, now employs more than 3.5 million people nationwide.
In 2026 to date, the government aims to deliver an additional 140,000 apartments. It also intends to double the number of Yangi O'zbekiston (New Uzbekistan) residential complexes across the provinces, expanding the current total from 61 to 120.
Key mega-projects driving this expansion include New Tashkent, alongside several strategic satellite cities: Nurafshon city in Tashkent province, Babur in Andijan province, Shirin in Samarkand province, and Al-Khwarizmi in Khorezm province.
The president also emphasized the ongoing digitalization of the sector, noting that administrative procedures for securing construction permits have been cut threefold, while approval timelines have shrunk fourfold. To improve oversight, 24 distinct digital management systems have now been fully integrated into the state's Transparent Construction electronic platform.
