Four Uzbek nationals have been sentenced to eight years and six months in prison by a court in the Sariasiyo district on terrorism and extremism charges, the State Security Service (DXX) reported.
The DXX reported that one of the convicts, a Surkhandarya province native born in 2003, traveled to Makhachkala, Russia, for seasonal labor. While there, intelligence officials claim he fell under the influence of extremist ideologies online and established contact with a radical operative known by the alias "Muhammad."
Another Sariasiyo resident, born in 2005, later joined the cell. The group finalized plans to travel to Syria via Moscow and Istanbul, but their plot unraveled following an internal dispute while in Moscow. The coordinator, "Muhammad," was subsequently arrested and prosecuted for a separate murder committed in Kazan, Russia.
