21-year-old convict of the #14 penal colony, in Almalyk, Tashkent province, Muhammadkodir Pulatov, died On February 15, the director of the Ezgulik human rights society "" Abdurakhmon Tashanov said on his Facebook page.
Nigora Kambarova commenting on her son’s death, which is now being widely discussed on social networks, said that her only son, born after four daughters, was charged of hooliganism after a mess in a store in Fergana in August 2024. After four months of investigation, in early December, the young man was sentenced to three years in prison.
According to the woman, the family had been informed of the death of her son by phone only at 7:00 am on February 15.
“It turns out that my son fell ill on February 14. They said he died on Friday evening. According to them, he woke up in the morning, felt sick and vomited, and was taken to intensive care. Couldn't they have told us, the relatives, that their son was on the intensive care? They told us only after they took him to the coroner’s, cut him open, stitched him up, and sent him to the morgue. This situation itself makes me suspicious," she added.
"From Fergana, we immediately headed to the morgue in Tashkent. My son's body was prepared and wrapped. There was a police officer there. He introduced himself as Bakhrom, the deputy head of the colony. He said that my son vomited in the morning and was taken to the hospital. "I took him to the hospital in my personal car, gave him medicine and did everything I could. But your son died at 12 o'clock at night," he said, as if making excuses," Nigora Kambarova noted.
According to the mother, the prison administration told her that Muhammadkodir had died as a result of myocardial infarction and acute pancreatitis.
“My son had no health issues. How could he just die? He has been doing sports since childhood. He went to kickboxing, boxing, taekwondo and mixed martial arts. He was the winner of many international tournaments. He has dozens of medals. He never complained about his health, and he did not have any concomitant diseases,” she said.
“My son could not have just died for no reason. If, as the policeman said, my son had some kind of poisoning in the colony and vomited, I suspect that he was given some kind of toxic drug, or even was tortured to death. Because there were signs of torture on his body, stripes, similar marks from electric shocks, and bruises. My son did not kill anyone, did not wound anyone with a weapon in his hands,” said Nigora Kambarova.
She stated that she intended to "go till the end" to find out the details of her son's death. "I do not want other mothers' children to die at the hands of the police. I believe that justice will prevail," the mother noted.
The spokesman to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Shokhrukh Giyasov said that the Ministry was not able to provide information on this matter, and that the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office will give an official answer. The spokesman to the Prosecutor General's Office, Khayot Shamsutdinov, said that the situation was being investigated.
The office of the Ombudsperson stated that the case had been taken under control and the available facts were currently being studied.
Referring to the information from the duty unit of the colony, they reported that the prisoner contacted doctors at 22:45 on February 14.
"Due to the fact that his condition did not improve after first aid, he was hospitalized in the city central hospital of Almalyk. Despite medical procedures, the prisoner died in hospital at 1:00 a.m. on February 15 as a result of hypertension and primary heart failure,” the statement said.
Ombudsperson Feruza Eshmatova also sent an appeal to the Attorney General’s Office.
