4,906 officials were convicted in Uzbekistan for crimes in 2024, which is by 37.2% more than in 2023 (3,575), the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office said.
The number of criminal cases against officials for which sentences were handed stood at 3,821, which is by 12% more than in 2023 (3,412).
Among those convicted, 71 (versus 49 in 2023, +44.9%) are employees of national, 410 (267, +53.6%) - provincial and 4,425 (3,259, +35.8%) - district (city) branches of ministries, departments and organizations.
Officials were brought to criminal liability for the following crimes:
- theft of property by misappropriation and embezzlement - 2929 (in 2023 - 2205, +32.8%);
- receiving a bribe, giving a bribe, mediating in bribery - 353 (195, +81%);
- fraud - 447 (272, +64.3%);
- abuse of office - 226 (397, -43%);
- forgery in office - 13 (36, -68.9%);
- negligence - 40 (25, +60%);
- excess of power and official authority - 13 (30, -56.7%);
- other crimes.
The above crimes resulted in spike in damage to state and public interests by 2.3 times - from 1.55 trillion to 3.61 trillion soums (about $278.5 million). The preliminary investigation recovered 2.343 trillion soums (1.31 trillion). However, the ratio of returned cash was 65%, which is less than in 2023 (84.7%).
