The Customs Committee commented on social media reports about the need to declare mobile devices that are being imported into Uzbekistan.

When registering a phone's IMEI code, it is no longer enough to have been abroad, as before. Now one is required to declare a mobile device when carrying it in Uzbekistan.

When registering on the website, information is now searched for in the customs database. If it is not found in the database, then one will have to pay a duty of 30% of the customs value of the phone.

Back in October 2023 the government had relaxed restrictions on the import of new phones into Uzbekistan. If previously individuals could bring in only one phone duty-free every six months, then from January 28, 2024, two phones can be imported at each border crossing.

The total price of one or two phones imported through the airport should not exceed $2,000 (by train - up to $1,000, by car - up to $300). If the amount is $2,300, then duties of 30% are applied to the amount exceeding $2,000, i.e. $300.

At the same time, declaration of new phones has been introduced. The declaration shall be filled out regardless of the maximum import standards for items not subject to customs duties. Failure to do so, the owner of the device will have to pay 30% customs duty.

The Ministry of Digital Technologies also explained at the time that declaration is the basis for legal import and registration in the UzIMEI system.

The Customs Committee reported that at the end of October customs authorities and the UzIMEI system completed integration, which allows identifying undeclared phones when registering IMEI codes.
