Uzbekistan is considering introducing fines for driving on lanes for buses and special vehicles (ambulances, fire brigades), the press service of the Legislative Chamber said on Saturday.
Reportedly, the relevant committee of the lower house of parliament is preparing a bill aimed at increasing the efficiency of public transport.
The bill is proposing to adopt amendments into the Code of Administrative Liability establishing liability for violating traffic rules on dedicated lanes for public transport.
Amendments propose a fine of 3 times the basic calculation unit (1.125 million soums) for the first offence, in case of a second violation within a year - 5 BCUs (1.875 million soums).
The traffic rules prohibit driving and stopping on the lane for buses and special vehicles. One can enter it only in places designated by a broken line marking, as well as for making a turn, as well as for boarding and disembarking passengers, if this does not interfere with the movement of a public transport. However, there is no fine for violating these rules.
In December last year, the Road Safety Service reported that in Tashkent, drivers who stop, drive or park their cars on a dedicated lane were already receiving fines. It was reported that the fine for driving on a bus lane is 0.5 basic calculation units (175 thousand soums), stopping - 2 BCUs (750 thousand soums). The fine for stopping was issued under Article 128-6 of the Code of Administrative Liability - violation of stopping or parking rules.
Bus lines with a length of 44.8 km were luanched in Tashkent in 2023.
