On July 31, in Nukus at the age of 72, the chairman of Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan, the deputy chairman of the Senate Musa Erniyazov, died, UzA said.

The Turkish government has sent another batch of humanitarian aid to Uzbekistan, UzA said. The cargo weighing almost 12.5 tons arrived in Tashkent on 31 July. It included 50,000 N95 protective masks, 200,000 medical masks, 40,000 overalls, 5,000 full face masks, as well as drugs used in the treatment of COVID-19.

The Uzbek born Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov donated 100 billion soums (US$ 10 million) to reward the medical personnel in Uzbekistan.

On July 28, during the Uzbek government delegation’s visit to Turkey, the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with the President of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Serkan Kayalar, the Ministry said.

On July 28, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) donated $902,000 worth of medical and laboratory equipment and supplies to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health. The donated items will allow the country to conduct 25,000 COVID-19 tests, using advanced Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) equipment.  This technology detects the presence of viral DNA, which is present in the body before a person is symptomatic, enabling public health authorities to isolate the patient very early and break the chain of transmission, vital to ending the pandemic. 

On the initiative of the Uzbek Embassy in Germany, the international charity organization Friedensdorf International sent a humanitarian aid to Uzbekistan.

684 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Uzbekistan on July 28, which is yet another highest daily increase since mid-March, when the first case was detected. The total number of confirmed cases has reached 21,893, the Ministry of Health said.

Zehavit Ben-Hillel has been appointed the new Israeli ambassador to Uzbekistan, Dunyo news agency reported. Prior to her appointment to Uzbekistan, Zehavit Ben-Hillel worked as the head of the Public Affairs department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry. She will replace Eduard Shapira, who headed the Israeli Embassy since 2017.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a government meeting Thursday on the fight against coronavirus, the presidential press service said.
