A new thermal power plant was commissioned in Khavast district of Syrdarya province, the Ministry of Energy reported. 220 MW gas piston thermal power plant was erected by the Turkish company Cengiz Enerji. According to the ministry, the TPP began supplying energy to the power grid on November 20 at 10:00 (initially, the launch was planned from October 25).

The station can produce 1.7 billion kWh per year and helps to save 150 million cubic meters of natural gas due to "high equipment efficiency." Reportedly the saved gas can be used to produce an additional 685 million kWh of electricity.

Construction of the power plant began in the spring. The construction on March 29 was launched by Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was on a visit to Uzbekistan.

At the same time, a ceremony was held to launch a 240 MW modern thermal power plant in Tashkent province. It is designed to produce 2 billion kWh of energy per year.
