A gas outburst from a well at Muynak field in Karakalpakstan was handled after a month, the press service of Uzbekneftegaz said on Tuesday.
An operational headquarters has been to handle the around-the-clock outburst. It included officers from the paramilitary unit in charge of prevention and handling of open oil and gas flares, officers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, territorial barnches of relevant departments, as well as officials of the mayor’s office.
"For the selfless work shown in difficult conditions during the well closure in the fire area, 200 workers were presented with letters of gratitude and memorable gifts," the report says.
The gas outburst occurred during the drilling of the first exploratory well at the Muynak field site, which belongs to Uzbekneftegaz, on July 26. The well was far from populated areas, and the gas was pure methane without hydrogen sulfide, the Ministry of Energy stressed.
