The Migration Agency has appealed to Uzbeks abroad, reminding them of criminal punishment for participating in armed conflicts Tuesday.

“Cases of recruitment of Uzbek migrants to military operations have become more frequent in a number of countries. This is e real threat to your lives, freedom and future,” the Agency said, without specifying these countries.

The agency reminded that there is criminal liability for:

  • approaching zones of armed conflicts and military operations;
  • participating in military operations;
  • joining armed forces, security services, military justice or other security agencies of foreign countries;
  • agree to an offer of recruitment from suspicious individuals, groups or organizations.

According to Article 154-1 of the Criminal Code, the joining by an Uzbekistan citizen of military service, security agencies, police, military justice or other similar bodies of foreign countries is punishable by a fine of up to 300 BCUs (123.6 million soums) or correctional labor of up to 3 years, and in case of recruitment – house arrest from 3 to 5 years or imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.
