19-year-old driver who hit a man and a boy (father and son) at a zebra crossing while speeding in April in Samarkand has been handed six years in prison. The ruling was handed down on July 22 by the Samarkand City Criminal Court.
According to the case materials, the defendant H. Khaidarov hit two pedestrians at a zebra crossing on Ali Kushchi street at approximately 8:15 p.m. on April 3 on a Cherry Tigo 7 Pro model. The boy, who was celebrating his birthday, died, and his father sustained life-threatening injuries. The driver took both to the hospital after the collision. He has been in custody since April 4.
The young man pleaded guilty in court. He said that his parents had bought him the car in March, and he started driving in 2024.
The driver claimed that he had been driving at 60-65 km/h and was unable to stop in time after seeing pedestrians 30 m away.
He said that he had asked the family of the deceased for forgiveness and expressed his willingness to compensate for the damage, but the family had not forgiven him. Repeating that he admitted his guilt and repented, the defendant asked the court to mitigate his sentence.
The child's mother said that on the day of the accident, her husband and son had left the house to buy clothes for the boy for his birthday. They were heading home after shopping. The woman repeated that she did not forgive the defendant and asked the court to give him the most severe possible punishment.
The boy's father said that he had been crossing the street holding his son's hand. According to him, the car was traveling at 120-130 km/h. The man said that he spent more than 30 million soums on his treatment. He also asked for a more severe punishment for the culprit.
The defendant's actions were qualified under Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles, resulting in the death of a person charge (punishable by imprisonment for up to seven years with deprivation of a certain right).
The court considered pledge of guilt and repentance as mitigating circumstances and sentenced the driver to six years of imprisonment (starting from the day of detention - April 4). The young man will serve his sentence in a penal colony. He is also deprived of the right to drive vehicles for two years.
The court ruled to collect 30.1 million soums from the defendant in favor of the father, who was injured as compensation.
