Uzbekistan plans to deploy Hungarian technology for producing rubber-modified bitumen (RMB) for road construction, after talks in Budapest between MOL Group and SHB Road Invest.

The project is valued at $35 million. The parties signed a memorandum of cooperation providing for joint work on how to implement the technology in Uzbekistan. SHB Road Invest is the partner on the Uzbek side.

The meeting was organized with the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan.

RMB technology uses rubber crumb from recycled end-of-life tires as an additive to road bitumen, allowing secondary raw materials to be used in road construction materials.

The initiative would help develop production of modern road construction materials, expand tire recycling and strengthen technological ties between companies in the two countries, the agency said.

Laboratory research published in Uzbekistan in 2024 reported certain scientific and practical results in creating modified bitumen binders and modified asphalt concrete from secondary industrial waste.

Separately, scientists at Samarkand State Technical University, working with specialists from Türkiye, have launched an international research project on producing a new type of asphalt raw material from cotton stalks, the agency reported earlier. In July, solutions for protecting asphalt from direct sunlight were discussed with an Egyptian company.
