During the visit of the Uzbek government and business delegation to Iran, Deputy PM/Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umrzakov met with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi in Tehran.

The parties noted that agreements on a number of new investment projects were planned to be signed as part of the forthcoming 14th meeting of the Uzbek-Iranian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

They identified priorities for cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran in the fields of agro-industry, water resources management, production of construction materials, ferrous metallurgy, machinery, light industry and medicine.

The prospects of establishing industrial cooperation between the special economic zones, in particular, Chabahor, Aras (Iran) and Navoi and Angren FEZs (Uzbekistan) were highlighted. An agreement was reached on the preparation and approval of specific investment projects in the said sectors, as well as joint work to identify project initiators among the interested entrepreneurs of the two countries.

The parties welcomed the progress made in bilateral talks between the relevant ministries and departments of the two countries in the field of transport and logistics. During the visit of the Uzbek interdepartmental delegation to Iran in January this year, agreements were reached on the development of transport corridors and the transit of goods through the territories of the two countries, and a number of important cooperation agreements were signed.

The parties stressed the priority of continuing joint work to form new, low-cost trade routes connecting the two countries and countries of the region, to increase the efficiency of use of transport and transit potential of both countries.

The talks focused on measures to be taken in the framework of the two countries' participation in international organizations, cooperation to ensure regional security, economic development and strengthening transport links between the countries of the region, and the implementation of joint projects of regional significance.
