Uzbekistan Railways received the delivery of a new electric train from Russia, which will be used on suburban routes from Tashkent. This was announced by the company's chairman Zufar Narzullaev told the Uzbekistan 24 following the government meeting with Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday.
In the summer of 2022, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to establish the operation of modern high-speed electric trains from Tashkent to Khodjikent, Bekabad and Angren. The current fleet of trains is outdated and cannot cope with the flow of passengers, it was said at the presentation by the head of state.
The low speed of electric trains, the lack of connectivity between railway stations and public transport, the low level of service, the lack of flexibility in tariffs and other shortcomings were noted.
In the spring of 2021, Uzbekistan Railways announced plans to update the fleet of electric trains for suburban services in Tashkent. It was planned to put four new high-speed electric trains on the route to Khodjikent, which would reduce travel time from 2 hours 15 minutes to 1 hour.
