The Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Committee denied rumors on social networks about spread of an unknown dangerous virus in Tashkent, which mainly affects children and causes pneumonia.

The press service of the Ministry of Health posted a comment by the first deputy chairman of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee Nurmat Atabekov, who stated that the seasonal increase in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections is a natural phenomenon.

Airborne transmitted Respiratory diseases are seasonal in nature. And this is not a cause for concern, he noted.

With a sharp drop in air temperature in Uzbekistan, many paople keep their windows tightly closed to keep their homes and apartments warm. The same can be said about various organizations. As a result, ventilation in apartments and premises deteriorates, which contributes to an increase in the concentration of viruses in the air, said Nurmat Atabekov.

“As for the reports of “the emergence of new viruses,” it should be noted that at the moment about 45 thousand mutations of the coronavirus have been registered in the world, and the mutation never stopped. However, only 10-15 of them caused the disease. Therefore, there is no need to panic because of mutations,” he said.

"The current increase in cases of acute respiratory viral infections should be considered a natural phenomenon," Nurmat Atabekov noted.

He recalled that Uzbekistan has a system for monitoring viruses circulating in the country. Virus samples taken from patients are regularly analyzed in specialized laboratories.
