On November 21, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Digital Evidence Bill into Law. According to the Law, electronic evidence shall be deemed evidence just as objects and documents.
The document was returned twice for revision. The two previous versions of the bill were rejected (in June 2022 and November 2023). The Legislative Chamber passed it on August 27, the Senate approved it on October 24.
“The widespread incidence of crimes, violations of the rights of individuals and organizations in the digital environment require the institutionalization of digital evidence and the consolidation of the legal basis for handling it,” the preamble of the law says.
According to the document, amendments shall also be made to the Criminal Procedure Code, the Civil and Economic Procedure Codes, as well as the Administrative Liability Code.
While, modifications have been made to the legislation regulating notaries, arbitration courts and forensic examination, providing for the procedure for examining digital evidence and examining it.
The concepts of electronic data and digital evidence have also been adopted.
