The Legislative Chamber passed the Bill on ratification of the Alliance Ties Treaty between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in three readings at the meeting on Tuesday.
The leaders of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed the Treaty following talks in Dushanbe on April 18 this year.
Dilorom Fayziyeva, a member of the UzLiDeP party and a member of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security, said that the Treaty reflects the "centuries-old historical, spiritual and cultural community of the peoples of the two countries, based on the inviolable ideas and principles of friendship, good neighborliness and mutual respect."
"It was entered into based on the high level of bilateral ties and the observed positive trend in the development of comprehensive bilateral cooperation," she said.
According to her, the main goal of the Treaty is " to strengthen the legal framework to ensure the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and sustainable economic development of both countries." The Treaty is intended to facilitate the full development of the potential of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in accordance with the "vital and long-term national interests of the two fraternal states."
The Treaty consists of a preamble and 26 articles. Its main provisions include the peaceful settlement of regional conflicts based on generally recognized norms of international law, respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of state borders, continued cooperation on the delineation of state borders, the development of parliamentary diplomacy and the strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties.
"The alliance ties between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will bring the bilateral ties to a new level and will become a constructive basis for ensuring peace, stability and security in Central Asia. The unification of the potential of the two countries in the field of politics, trade, economics and security will contribute to strengthening peace, harmony and stability in the region, as well as accelerating integration processes in Central Asia," Dilorom Fayzieva said.
The BIll was approved by all 145 MPs who attended the meeting.
