Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE), Ambassador Abat Fayzullayev met in Vienna with the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities (HCNM) Kairat Abdrakhmanov, Dunyo news agency reported.
Reportedly, the parties exchanged views on the state and the ways to advance the ties between Uzbekistan and the Office of the HCNM, as well as upcoming joint events for 2022.
In recent years, close working contacts have been established between the OSCE HCNM and Uzbekistan, and the parties have successfully carried out a number of events both at the national and regional levels, dedicated to the thematic recommendations of the HCNM.
In particular, the High Commissioner noted the successful holding in July 2021 of an online round table on the topic “Graz Recommendations on Access to Justice and National Minorities in Uzbekistan” in cooperation with the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan and the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan. In connection with this event, the HCNM Office also translated and disseminated the Graz Recommendations and the Ljubljana Guidelines for the Integration of Diverse Societies into Uzbek.
The parties agreed that the HCNM Office will continue this positive practice and in 2022, together with the Uzbek side, will hold a series of similar events in various cities of Uzbekistan. In order to give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation, Kairat Abdrakhmanov announced his readiness to visit Uzbekistan in 2022.
