Tashkent hosted a major international conference and a series of expert sessions within the framework of the German-Uzbek Dialogue on Climate-Resilient Agriculture program on April 14-17.

The event brought together leading scientists, policymakers, farmers and practitioners from Uzbekistan, Germany, the EU and Africa and was organized with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, BMEL (German Ministry of Food and Agriculture), GOPA AFC, AKIS, the Veterinary Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and other partners.

The main topic of the event was agroecology as a new paradigm for sustainable agricultural development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference and subsequent workshops covered a wide range of issues — from regenerative agriculture and pasture management to alternative crops, rational water use and models of agricultural innovation.

Four-day program included:

International Conference (14 April) with the participation of eminent experts such as Andre Le (Regeneration International), Roberto Aparicio Martin (EU in Uzbekistan), Precious Phiri (Zimbabwe), as well as representatives of BMEL, the University of Bonn and others.

- Regenerative agriculture and sustainable agricultural technologies;

- Harmony between humans, animals and the environment;

- Innovations in agricultural policy and sustainable rural development.

- Field visits (16 April) to various regions demonstrating best practices in sustainable agriculture and conservation land use.

- Synthesizing meeting (April 17), where final reports of three working groups (Ministry of Agriculture, Committee on Veterinary and Livestock, AKIS) were presented, achievements were analyzed and specific recommendations for the implementation of agroecological principles in Uzbekistan were developed.

Key results of the event:

- The need for a transition to agroecological approaches as a basis for climate-resilient agricultural policy was emphasized;

- Recommendations for reforming the agricultural knowledge and innovation system (AKIS) were developed;

- Ways to expand agrobiodiversity and support family farms were identified;

- Specific proposals for the national roadmap for the implementation of agroecology were formulated.

The program became a platform for active dialogue between international and Uzbek participants, contributed to the exchange of knowledge, strengthening institutional ties and the formation of a new approach to agriculture - sustainable, inclusive and future-oriented.
