President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Ensuring freedom of conscience of individuals and approving the concept of national policies in the religious sphere in Uzbekistan Bill into Law Tuesday.

The Bill was passed by the Legislative Chamber on February 11 and was approved by the Senate on February 20. It had been posted for public input until February 10.

The concept is aimed at "ensuring a stable environment in multinational and multi-confessional Uzbekistan, necessary for the realization of the interests of the entire society, for living in mutual harmony based on democracy, secularism, freedom, equality, social justice and solidarity, consistent development."

The Law emphasizes that the Constitution guarantees everyone freedom of conscience and the right to profess any religion or not to profess any, prohibiting the imposition of religious views. At the same time, the Concept underscores the important role of religious values, which contribute to the formation of culture, lifestyle, customs, morality of the people and their transmission from generation to generation.
