Cabinet of Ministers issued a resolution amending the Regulation on procedure for voluntary surrender of unregistered firearms and their ammunition, explosive materials and devices to police bodies and on procedure for rewarding the surrender of firearms and their ammunition.
The following procedure for surrendering weapons and their ammunition has been set:
- an individual applies to police department or a local policeman and surrenders the weapon and (or) its ammunition;
- on the same day, the police shall accept the weapon (ammunition) and shall issue a receipt for keeping an account of the weapon (ammunition);
- after that, the relevant departments of the police conduct appropriate checks (pre-investigation inspection, ballistic examination, inspection of bases);
- the relevant commission makes a decision on rewarding the applicant.
A cash reward of 5 to 500 percent of the BCU will be handed for the voluntary surrender of weapons or ammunition, in particular:
- for rifles, combined (rifled and smooth-bore) firearms - 500 percent of the BCU;
- for smooth-bore firearms - 400 percent of the BCU;
- for barrelless firearms (weapons in which the cartridge case is used as a barrel) - 300 percent of the BCU;
- for pneumatic weapons - 100 percent of the BCU;
- for edged cold weapons (rapiers, swords and sabers), throwing weapons (bows, crossbows and spears) - 50 percent of the BCU;
- for electroshock devices, spark plugs and other devices whose damaging effect is based on the use of electrical energy – 30 percent of the BCU;
- for signal weapons – 25 percent of the BCU;
- for gas weapons (gas canisters filled with tear gas or irritant substances, mechanical sprayers, aerosol devices and other devices) – 15 percent of the BCU;
- for cartridges – 5 percent of the BCU;
- for the barrel, bolt, cartridge (drum), frame, receiver – 75 percent of the BCU.
If the weapon is damaged, the amount of the reward shall be halved.
