Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the Uzbekistan reforms in recent years a “miracle.” He said this while speaking at a joint press conference with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his visit to Tashkent on Wednesday.

“From the first day you assumed the office, you have completely transformed Uzbekistan. You have revived the society,” the Pakistani Prime Minister said.

“If I am not mistaken, in 2016, the poverty rate in Uzbekistan was 42%, and the trade figures were also low. Today, the poverty rate has dropped to 8%, and the volume of investment has reached 30 billion [US dollars]. Isn’t this in itself a great miracle?!” Shehbaz Sharif asked.

“This is indeed a miracle. Because such results cannot be achieved with high-flying words or by setting up some council or issuing a decree. Miracles appear thanks to a clear vision, high dynamics, tireless work and a bold desire to achieve the goal. "I saw such high qualities in you," the Pakistani Prime Minister said, addressing Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

As reported earlier, an agreement was reached at the talks to set up a bilateral Supreme Council for Strategic Partnership, the first meeting of which is scheduled for the next year with the participation of the leaders of the two countries.

The counterparts also announced the goal to bring the two-way trade to $2 billion in the coming years. In 2024, this figure was over $400 million.
