NGOs operating in Uzbekistan, as well as beneficieries of foreign grants, will not face financial issues, the Director of the Public Fund for Support of Non-governmental Non-profit Organizations and Other Civil Society Institutions, Otabek Khusanov told the Sevimli TV channel.
This statement was prompted by reports that the new US administration has “frozen” all overseas development aid, which is why many projects around the world are at risk of being stopped. The US provided aid to foreign countries through various departments, including the State Department, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the Pentagon, the Department of Agriculture and others.
“In the past, today, and in the future, we are ready to fully support, facilitate and provide opportunities for the continuation of projects. In addition, we would like to note that if problems related to foreign grants arise in 2025, we are also ready to ready additional projects to support them. I call on all NGOs to actively participate in competitions for state grants and state social orders announced by the fund,” Khusanov said.
The budget of the NGO support fund is about 100 million dollars annually, of which about 70% goes to finance the activities of the mahalla management system.
