The US authorities deported 572 Uzbeks in the 2024 fiscal year, which ended on September 30, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said in a report.
88 Uzbeks were deported back to the country last year; in previous years, this figure was lower.
In total, from September 2023 to September 2024, the US deported 271.4 thousand migrants to almost 200 countries. This is the highest figure in a decade. It became the highest since the 2014 fiscal year: in that year, almost 316 thousand migrants were expelled from the country.
According to the ICE report, about 32 percent of those expelled from the United States were people with a criminal background. Most of those deported crossed the southern border of the United States.
In 2023, more than 50,000 people from Central Asian countries illegally crossed the US border, while about 17,000 Uzbeks applied for asylum.
