Police have opened a criminal case against the management of Imarat Development, a limited liability company in Sergeli district, over homes that were sold as being in the capital but are being built in Tashkent province, the Tashkent Police Department (TPD) said.
The TPD's investigation team opened the case under two articles of the Criminal Code: Article 168, which covers fraud, and Article 192-11, which covers abuse of authority by officials in non-state commercial and other non-state organizations.
The case follows an appeal by a group of individuals to law enforcement bodies. They expressed distrust of the company’s activities and asked that legal action be taken against its management, the agency’s press service said.
The investigation is being supervised by the head of the TPD and by prosecutors. The agency said a lawful decision would be ensured based on the findings of the probe.
The probe provisionally found that the new homes promised in the capital were in fact being built in Kuyi Chirchik district of Tashkent province. When this came to light, buyers protested and demanded refunds. The payments were not returned, the agency said.
