President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has removed Behzod Musaev as director of the Migration Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers, presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov announced. The decree cites Musaev's transfer to another position.
Mirziyoyev appointed Mukhsinhuja Abdurakhmonov, who has served as Uzbekistan's ambassador to Japan since July 2021, as the agency's new chief.
Abdurakhmonov, 52, graduated from Tashkent State University of Economics in 1996 and completed an internship at California State University, Chico, in the United States from 1994 to 1995. He later studied at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Uzbekistan from 1996 to 1998.
From 1998 to 2001, he pursued a master's degree at Otaru University of Commerce in Japan, followed by doctoral studies at Hokkaido University from 2001 to 2004. He then worked as a researcher at Hokkaido University from 2006 to 2008.
Earlier in his career, Abdurakhmonov worked as a manager at Coca-Cola Uzbekistan LLC from 2004 to 2006 and served as general director of the Japanese company MTRUST from 2008 to 2017.
Between 2018 and 2021, he served as deputy governor of Fergana province, chiefing its investment and foreign trade department, before briefly leading the investment department at Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Musaev, 53, had led the Migration Agency since September 2024. He previously served as Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction, as well as Minister of Health, Deputy Prime Minister for Social Development, and chairman of both the Accounts Chamber and the State Tax Committee.
