Indian citizens can now enter Uzbekistan without a visa for stays of up to 30 days, provided they hold a valid visa from certain developed countries and a return ticket to their home country or onward travel to a third country. The measure was introduced under a presidential decree signed by Shavkat Mirziyoyev on August 29, the Ministry of Justice announced.
The change took effect September 1 and applies to Indian citizens holding a valid multiple-entry business or tourist visa for Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, the Schengen area, New Zealand, or Japan.
Plans for the visa-free arrangement were first announced following talks between Mirziyoyev and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tashkent on August 30, though no further details were disclosed at the time.
Uzbek citizens, meanwhile, still need a visa to travel to India, which can be obtained online; some visa categories require an in-person visit to the Indian Embassy. Travelers must also submit an electronic e-Arrival Card at least 72 hours before landing in India.
Tourist arrivals from India to Uzbekistan have risen sharply in recent years: 45,500 in 2023, 70,600 in 2024, and 80,900 in 2025 — placing India ninth among all countries by visitor numbers to Uzbekistan. Overall, the number of Indian tourists visiting Uzbekistan grew nearly 1.8-fold between 2022 and 2025.
