The United Nations Development Programme and the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) signed MoU to strengthen capacity of Office of the Ombudsperson in re-alignment of its legal and operational base as part of human rights reform agenda, which is being carried out in line with the Action Strategy of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021.

Facebook users in Uzbekistan have been unable to properly use the site since September 4. Many users reported a “total blackout”, while others only experienced issues with some features - including logging in to both the website and its mobile app, sending messages and posting status updates.

Three bloggers in Uzbekistan have been arrested for allegedly posting Facebook messages on religious issues. Musannif Adham, Ziyovuddin Rahim and Otabek Usmanov were taken to the police offices during the last days of August and with searches conducted in their houses.

President of Egypt Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi will pay an official visit to Uzbekistan on September 4-5, UzA reported. During the talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the parties will reportedly discuss the promising areas for advancing the Uzbek-Egyptian ties in the political and economic areas, as well as in tourism, science, education, culture and sport.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, Major-General Pulat Bobojonov hosted the U.S. delegation led by the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), David Bowdich, the ministry said.
