The President’s draft Measures to Introduce System for Issuing ID cards in the Republic of Uzbekistan Decree has been posted for discussion on regulation.gov.uz portal. The draft was prepared by the Ministry of the Interior.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 12 chaired a meeting on the implementation of the digital economy and e-government, the presidential press service.

The Senate at its fourth plenary session on May 11 backed Uzbekistan’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as an observer-state.

As of 11 PM May 10, the number of confirmed coronavirus infection cases in Uzbekistan stood at 2418, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID-OFDA), is supporting Uzbekistan’s response to the partial collapse of the Sardoba Reservoir dam in the Syrdarya region that caused the displacement of tens of thousands of people in one of the country’s most important agricultural areas. USAID is providing $100,000 to a local organization to procure and distribute essential relief supplies to families affected by the disaster. At least four persons died as a result of the collapse and in subsequent relief efforts.

At the Central Military District’s Kattakurgan field training ground, the largest in Uzbekistan, the military personnel for the first time tested the firing of 14.2-millimeter shells from the D-30 howitzer.

The Cabinet of Ministers issued a resolution appointing Bakhtiyor Kamalov as the chief of the Water Management Projects Agency (WMPA) at the Ministry of Water Economy.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke to the Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone on Thursday. At the beginning of the conversation, the two leaders exchanged warm congratulations on the upcoming holiday - the 75th anniversary of the Victory over fascism, wished health and well-being to the veterans, friendly peoples of the two countries, the presidential press service said.

Uzbek-born billionaire Alisher Usmanov donated $15mn to help those affected by the busting of the Sardoba dam last week that had destroyed dozens of villages and had displaced a total of around 100,000 people from their homes.

The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping on Thursday, the presidential press service said in a statement.

On May 5, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a video conference, at which he spoke about emergencies in the Bukhara and Syrdarya provinces.

Starting from May 8, one of three lockdown levels will take effect in the provinces - Red, Yellow and Green. According to the decision of the Special Anti-Coronavirus Commission, in all provinces, regardless of the level of lockdown, a number of previously introduced requirements and restrictions will remain.

The Senate will convene for its fourth plenary session on May 11 in a video conference format, the press service of the Senate said.

Starting May 8, following the assessment of the sanitary-epidemiological situation, in Tashkent and in the provinces the lockdown measures shall apply based on the levels assigned to them - Red, Yellow or Green. The decision was made by the Special Anti-Coronavirus Commission on Wednesday.

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC/CAR) has pledged $6.8 million to support governments in Central Asia in managing the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, including $2.07 million for Uzbekistan.   

The Foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan and China Abdulaziz Kamilov and Wang Yi held telephone conversations, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Based on the specific indices - number of cases and the recovered, Red, Yellow and Green levels will be assigned to districts and cities, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the government meeting on Tuesday.

On the morning of May 1, a partial collapse of the dam occurred on the Sardoba reservoir in Syrdarya province. As a result of the flood, damage was caused to settlements and crops in the Sardoba, Akaltyn and Mirzaabad districts, with 4 people dead, buildings, roads, communications damaged, and over 60 thousand people evacuated from 22 villages in three districts.
