The volume money remittances to Uzbekistan topped US$ 1.42 billion in January-March, an increase compared to the same period in 2020 by US$ 336 million, or 31%, the Central Bank said. The volume of funds sent abroad stood at US$ 353 million.
The Chairman of the Central Bank Mamarizo Nurmuratov previously explained that before, 30-35% of transfers came to Uzbekistan in cash. Then the restriction of transport links created the conditions for cash to go into the form of money transfers.
For the entire 2020, Uzbekistan-bound remittances amounted to US$ 6.03 billion. Transfers from Russia fell, but those from Turkey, the USA, the Republic of Korea, Israel and a number of other countries grew.
