Total value of securities held by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan stood at $202.5 million as of March 1, recording $100.4 million increase month-on-month.
This rise bring the securitites' share in Uzbekistan's gold and foreign exchange reserves to 0.45%.
The Central Bank's press service confirmed that, the regulator had purchased US Treasury bonds in the preceding month.
In May 2024, the Central Bank made its first-ever investment of $35 million in foreign government securities. Investment portfolio was created with an aim to diversify the reserves with the support of the World Bank. In October, the regulator bought US Treasury bonds worth $65 million, and in the end of 2024, their total value surpassed $101 million.
In January, the deputy governorof the Central Bank, Abror Mirzo Olimov unveiled the plans to continue purchasing US government bondsand added that to further diversify the gold and foreign exchange reserves, the regulator will focus on investing in low-risk assets, however it ruled out the acquiring of cryptocurrencies.
