President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been elected Chairman of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Uzbekistan, the press service of the NOC reported.
The 41st General Assembly of the NOC took place on November 25. The event was attended by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Head of Department of the Presidential Administration Odil Abdurakhmanov, Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov, Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Otabek Umarov, members of the General Assembly, as well as officials of the Federations and Associations.
The members reviewed the election of leadership of the National Olympic Committee.
The event was chaired by NOC Secretary General Oybek Kasimov, who emphasized that in accordance with the charter of the committee, the leadership of the NOC will be reorganized in each Olympic cycle.
Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov reported to the General Assembly on the completed work in the previous Olympic cycle.
The PM Aripov commended the successes achieved, but also drew attention to unrealized opportunities and criticized the federations that did not achieve the expected results.
After that, the members reviewed other items on the agenda. First, a new head of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan was elected (the previous chairman Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov left the post in February 2022, since then the Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov has been in charge).
"Speaking about this position, Abdulla Aripov, taking into account the need for comprehensive and thorough preparation for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the request of the thousands of Olympic family of our country, athletes and coaches, I have nominated the candidacy of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The candidacy was unanimously approved by all delegates and Sh. M. Mirziyoyev was elected Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan," the statement said.
In addition, the members of deputy chairmen of the committee were elected. Vice-President of the Olympic Council of Asia Otabek Umarov was elected as First Deputy Chairman, Oybek Kasimov was re-elected as Secretary General, and Sherzod Tashmatov as Deputy Chairman of the NOC.
