The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Uzbekistan on August 9 topped 30,609, the press service of the Ministry of Health said. The increase in new cases per day was 691 (the day before - 693).

On August 7 started the sixth plenary session of the Senate. During the meeting, Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Norboeva expressed her opinion on the pandemic.

The Turkish government has sent another batch of humanitarian aid to Uzbekistan, UzA said. The cargo weighing almost 12.5 tons arrived in Tashkent on 31 July. The Uzbek born Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov donated 100 billion soums (US$ 10 million) to reward the medical personnel in Uzbekistan.

On July 28, during the Uzbek government delegation’s visit to Turkey, the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with the President of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Serkan Kayalar, the Ministry said.

On July 28, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) donated $902,000 worth of medical and laboratory equipment and supplies to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health. The donated items will allow the country to conduct 25,000 COVID-19 tests, using advanced Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) equipment.  This technology detects the presence of viral DNA, which is present in the body before a person is symptomatic, enabling public health authorities to isolate the patient very early and break the chain of transmission, vital to ending the pandemic.
