The Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov hosted the Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Xiangchen Zhang, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade said.
Reportedly, the parties discussed the current state of the negotiation process on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO, as well as further steps for cooperation in this area.
“The country's government is committed to continuing to implement measures to liberalize trade, modernize the system of reforming foreign trade based on the principles and rules of the WTO agreements, encourage foreign investment, as well as introduce the best world practices in order to ensure sustainable economic growth,” the statement said.
The parties discussed practical issues of interaction on holding the 5th meeting of the Working Group on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO before the year-end.
Xiangchen Zhang expressed readiness to provide comprehensive support in holding this event and, in general, in the process of Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO. An agreement was reached on expanding technical assistance to Uzbekistan from the WTO Secretariat and its international experts in preparing the necessary documents.
