First department of gene dermatoses in Central Asia was opened on October 10 at the Republican Specialized Medical Scientific and Practical Center for Dermatovenereology and Cosmetology under the Ministry of Health.
The Russian foundation "Butterfly Children" helped to launch the department with the support of the "Art, Science and Sport" foundation of the Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov.
Children with rare genetic skin diseases: more than 300 patients with epidermolysis bullosa, over 2,000 people with ichthyosis registered in Uzbekistan will be able to undergo comprehensive examination and symptomatic treatment at the new facility, as well as patients from other countries of Central and East Asia. The department is designed for 24 places, when accommodated with an accompanying person.
The department is intended for the diagnosis and treatment of genetic skin diseases, counseling for extracutaneous changes, nutritional regulation under the guidance of dietitians and gastroenterologists, and dental care for patients.
Patients with epidermolysis bullosa will be able to receive treatment according to the protocols for managing such patients (balneotherapy, phototherapy, etc.), aimed at rapid healing of the rash. The department is equipped with modern procedural equipment for hydrotherapy and light therapy procedures, physiotherapy and multidisciplinary diagnostics.
The construction of the facility began in 2020 and was completed within one year. The interior of the premises bears little resemblance to a hospital.
