In the Global organized crime index for 2021, Uzbekistan was ranked 90th. The authors of the ranking assessed countries according to three criteria:
- the scale and impact of criminal markets;
- the structure and influence of four types of crime (mafia, criminal networks, criminal structures within government agencies, and foreign criminal bodies);
- countries' resistance to organized crime.
For each criterion, the country could receive a score from 1 to 10, where 1 being best (low crime, high readiness of the authorities to resist criminal circles).
Uzbekistan was placed 90th place among 193 countries on 4.97 points. Of the neighboring countries, Kazakhstan ranked 133 (4.27), Kyrgyzstan - 72 (5.33), Turkmenistan - 113 (4.62) and Tajikistan - 62 (5.62). Russia is in 32nd place (6.24).
The first place in the ranking was taken by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (7.75). Colombia (7.66) and Myanmar (7.59) are in second and third place. Also in the top 10 criminal countries were Mexico, Nigeria, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, CAR and Honduras.
The best placed was the Pacific state of Tuvalu, which took the last 193 position in the ranking (1.54).
