The Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov traveled to Afghanistan where he met with the Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi  in Kabul. This has been the first meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan since the Taliban came to power.

Welcoming his Uzbek counterpart, Amir Khan Muttaqi gave assurances of the normalization of the situation in Afghanistan after the recent events and said that "I have the honor to receive him in a safe environment."

According to a Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abdulaziz Kamilov said that he was "glad to see clean streets, proper city management, people on the street and a safe atmosphere," adding that Uzbekistan has always focused on the mutual interests of both countries, and "Uzbekistan's foreign policy towards Afghanistan was not tied to other issues ".

"Mr. Kamilov expressed hope that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will soon take a firm place in the international community, and assured that Uzbekistan remains committed to its obligations in the field of transit, energy and trade," the statement said.

In turn, Amir Khan Muttaqi expressed gratitude to his colleague for the reconstruction of the airport in Mazar-i-Sharif and assistance in other areas.

In early October, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kabul Yodgorkhuja Shadmanov met with Maulavi Amir Khan Muttaqi. The parties then discussed the resumption of flights between the countries and the reconstruction of the Mazar-i-Sharif airport.
