Uzbekistan has accommodated more than 100 Afghan refugees in a tent camp in the Termez district of the Surkhandarya province near the border with Afghanistan.

According to Sputnik Uzbekistan, the number of refugees is at about 150, including 17 women and children.

Before the placement, all were tested for coronavirus, no infected were identified. The duration of stay and the further fate of these people were not reported.

In addition, reportedly, approximately 650 Afghan servicemen who arrived in Uzbekistan by plane are temporarily stationed in the COVID center near the military training ground in Surkhandarya.

On August 15, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported that 84 Afghan servicemen crossed the border of the country, some of them received medical assistance. On August 16, the General Prosecutor's Office announced (and later called its message not fully verified) that 22 military aircraft and 24 helicopters of Afghanistan, in which there were 585 armed servicemen, crossed the country's airspace over the two days. Also, 158 Afghan citizens and military personnel illegally entered Uzbekistan through the Amu Darya River.
