The inauguration ceremony of the International Central Asia Institute took place in Tashkent Thursday, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The event began with a greeting from the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which was read by the Senate speaker Tanzila Narbaeva.

The ceremony was attended by the foreign ministers of the Central Asian countries, representatives of the UN, CIS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, who arrived in Tashkent to attend the Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities”.

The Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov emphasized in his remarks that the creation of the institute testifies to the growing importance of regional political and economic processes, which in recent years have been especially pronounced in Central Asia.

He expressed confidence that the new institute will serve as a platform for expert discussion of the prospects for regional cooperation and the development of scientifically substantiated proposals for multilateral projects in various fields.

The International Central Asia Institute is the only state research institute in the region endowed with international status that will study regional processes and international ties related to Central Asia.
