The First Deputy Foreign Minister, Ilkhom Nematov met with the head of the Election Observation Mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)б Cayetana de Zulueta Outram, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.
The parties reportedly discussed the practical aspects of the interaction between the Uzbek authorities with the full-fledged ODIHR Observer Mission at the December 22 elections to the Legislative Chamber and local councils.
The Foreign Minister Nematov emphasized that the current elections are taking place under the motto: New Elections In A New Uzbekistan and noted the importance of the new Uzbek Electoral Code, which passed international examination and was developed taking into account the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR, the World Association of Electoral Bodies and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
According to provisional data, over 700 international observers from 50 countries and international organizations are expected to land in Uzbekistan.
Cayetana de Zulueta Outram said that the OSCE ODIHR is planning to send 300 observers who will be stationed inall Uzbekistan’s provinces at the majority of polling stations, and meet with representatives of five political parties participating in the elections.
