Next year, inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will inspect the ongoing construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus and evaluate the plans for the Uzbekistan nuclear power plant project, the acting DG of IAEAб Cornel Ferouta announced at a meeting of the IAEA Governing Council in Vienna, the UN News Service reported.
Earlier in April, Uzbekistan formally sent a request to conduct a mission to comprehensively review nuclear infrastructure in 2020 with the aim to assess the progress of the Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy program.
“The IAEA has officially confirmed the conduct of the mission, as well as the holding of a seminar on the training of Uzbek specialists for this mission,” Uzatom agency said.
Technical cooperation program aimed at capacity building and creating nuclear infrastructure has been developed with the assistance of IAEA staff as part of Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant project for 2020-2021.
This program envisages the participation of Uzbek specialists in nuclear power plant construction projects related workshops in 2020-2021, and conducting training seminars with the participation of the IAEA.
