The DG of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, is expecting that all the issues related to the construction of nuclear plants in Uzbekistan will be resolved before the end of 2019.
Some accords will be signed by the year-end, that is for sure. The negotiations are not going easily, because we have to fix the price. And there will be two phases to the project. The first being the design phase, which will largely determine the parameters of the future deal, Likhachev explained.
In fact, we are dealing with an equation with two unknowns: we are negotiating the design works, and the very implementation of this project. I’m sure that we will find all solutions by the end of the year, he concluded.
In September 2018, the Prime Ministers of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation, Abdulla Aripov and Dmitry Medvedev signed a Cooperation Agreement for the construction of nuclear power plants in Uzbekistan, according to which Rosatom will build a complex of two 3+ generation with VVER-1200 reactors.
On May 17, 2019, Uzatom and Rosatom in Tashkent signed the engineering surveys contract with the construction works due to commence in 2022 through a loan from the Russian government.
