The Central Asia International Trade Center for Economic Cooperation is planned to be set up on the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the Kazinform news agency said referring to the Vice Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Kairat Torebaev.
“Negotiations are already underway, we held several rounds of negotiations and selected five locations for this international center [which] is set to implement a new format for small-scale wholesale and retail trade on the border between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, to promote tourism, improve logistics services and boost cross-border business” - said Kairat Torebaev.
He noted that the project could create 10 thousand jobs at the implementation phase, while after it is commissioned - 40 thousand jobs.
The Ministry of Trade and Integration considers Uzbekistan as Kazakhstan’s main strategic partner in Central Asia and is intending to increase export of goods to in 70 items, the total amount of which is US$ 210 million.
