The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Jan 14 enlarged session of the Government drew attention to the problems in the social sphere.

The President asked a few questions to the Deputy Prime Minister, Adkham Ikramov, who is also the Health Minister.

1. "Why has the primary health care not been reformed over the years, and especially the rural health units, where there is shortage in doctors of 2500, and they are very poorly equipped with medical supplies and equipment?

2. Due to the poor state of diagnostics and inadequate training of doctors, about 30 thousand people a year have no other choice but to go abroad for treatment and spend huge amounts of cash from their family budget.

3. "When will you bring order to the ambulance units? Why are they often not able to provide emergency care to patients? "

4. "When will the medical staff stop committing offences? 174 criminal cases were filed in 2016 only." The President noted the cases of extortion in the Maternity Hospitals.

5. Why are the serious environmental issues neglected? "Do not they affect the public health?"

6. "Why do you personally and the head of Dori-Darmon (state-run network of pharmacies), Abdugani Kamilov make "a blind eye" and not take measures to address the serious shortcomings in the network of pharmacies, where 45% of expensive drugs are imported and sold at inflated prices?"

A great deal of progress has been made in recent years in the field of sports, the President continued. "However, at the last Olympics the medals were won only in 4 disciplines - weightlifting, boxing, wrestling and judo. Why is that so?" He requested to review this issue.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to take measures to establish an effective system of training of local doctors and other health care workers in the leading foreign clinics, as well as, if appropriate, and review their financial incentives.

"In cooperation with the supervisory authorities 340 kinds of medicines and medical products shall be sold at fixed rates. Every citizen must feel the real benefits of the decisions taken by us", - he concluded.
