Police officer in Andijan province has been criminally convicted for setting fire to a man's home over a personal grudge.
According to the court ruling, 24-year-old S.G. worked as a community police office in Ganjiravon neighborhood of Oltinkul district until April 20, 2026. On the night of April 17, he traveled to the Toshkechik neighborhood of Izboskan district and set fire to the home of a man with whom he had a personal dispute.
Taking advantage of the fact that no one was home, S.G. first smashed a window, then set fire to a piece of paper and threw it inside through the broken window before fleeing the scene. The resulting blaze caused 170 million soums in damage.
S.G. fully admitted guilt in court, telling the judge that the man he targeted was now married to his former girlfriend.
"I was in a relationship with S.N. from 2022 to 2024. After she married someone else, I cut off contact. In the fall of 2025, while I was on my way to the hospital with my mother, the driver of a Damas — who I later learned was J. — cut me off on the road. I told him to be more careful. He cursed at me and insulted my mother. Since my mother was ill, I didn't stop to argue and just drove on.
Later I asked around about the man and found out that J. was my ex-girlfriend's husband. That's when I started holding a grudge against him. I went to his village and found out where he lived and what he did for work.
On the night of April 16, 2026, I had been drinking. I remembered how J. had cursed at me in front of my mother. I took the license plates off my car and drove to his village.
I checked out the house where he lived. Once I saw no one was home, I broke the window with a rock. I lit a piece of paper I had brought with me and threw it through the broken window," S.G. said in his testimony.
The former officer said he had not intended to kill J. and only acted after confirming no one was inside, asking the court for leniency.
The Izboskan District Criminal Court found S.G. guilty under caluse "v," Part 2, Article 173 of the Criminal Code (Deliberate destruction of or damage to property) and sentenced him to two and a half years in prison. The court also ordered S.G. to pay the victim 170 million soums in damages.
