US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken expressed his opinion on the war in Ukraine and its impact on the countries of the Central Asia at a press conference in Tashkent’s Hyatt Regency Hotel on Wednesday 1 with the participation of media representatives.
“My visit is taking place on the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The war is bringing endless suffering to the whole world. The Central Asia and Uzbekistan are also suffering from this war. That's why the United States has provided $16 million in emergency food aid. Despite the difficulties, the generosity of the people of Uzbekistan (sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine - ed.) is commendable. The government of Uzbekistan also accepted several thousand refugees who left Russia.
The Russian invasion is creating a growing sense of insecurity in the region. After all, if a strong country tries to destroy the borders of its neighbor by force, what can prevent it from doing the same with other countries? This is understood by other [neighboring] countries, and the United States, and our partners around the world. That is why we support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Central Asian countries, he added.
