Strengthening the cooperation between Japan and Uzbekistan, the development of entrepreneurial capacity and expansion of business contacts have been set as targets of the fifth Uzbekistan-Japan Business Forum initiated by the Uzbekistan-Japan Center (UJC) held November 21 in Tashkent.

Four more free economic zones are to be created in Urgut, Gijduvan, Khazarasp districts and Kokand city free economic zones. A draft Presidential decree, prepared by the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, has been posted on the Portal of online public services for discussion.

Turakurgan TPP Construction Management Company, Uzbekenergo and the consortium of Japanese companies including Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. signed a contract to build a 900 MW thermal power plant in Namangan region on turnkey basis.

By the end of 2019 the proportion of electrified railway network in Uzbekistan will increase from the current 34% to 51%, a statement of the UzLiDeP’s website said.

The Swiss Casale SA launched a 500 thousand ton per year nitric acid production unit at Navoiazot (in Navoi region), with introduction of up-to-date energy-efficient technologies.

For the first time the Uzbek home appliances manufacturer Artel launched exports to Ukraine following the Uzbek-Ukrainian business meeting in Kiev, an Uzbek embassy statement said.

UzbekEnergo has started construction of the 220 kV high-voltage transmission line (HVTL) Takhiatash TPP - Khorezm substation-Sarymai (Khorezm region) in north-west of Uzbekistan. 

The Uzbek Labour Ministry delegation departed for Russia with a mission to take the labor migration cooperation between the two countries to a higher level, the press service of the Labor Emigration Agency statement said. 

Uzbekistan Railways in nine months of this year transported 15.8 million people, which is 2.9% higher than in the same period last year.

Uzbekistan Airways in January-September performed 16,692 flights and carried 1.882 million passengers, which is by 5% less than in the same period last year, a statement of the carrier's website said.
