The nuclear power plant, which is to be built in the Jizzakh province, is likely to be named Uzbekistan nuclear power plant, said First Deputy Minister of Energy, Director General of Uzatom Agency Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov.
“It’s still too early to reflect about the name, first we have to build the nuclear plant. Most likely we will name Uzbekistan power plant,” said Mirzamakhmudov.
However, he did not rule out that there could be a contest for the name of the first power plant in Uzbekistan.
The construction and commissioning of a nuclear power plant consisting of two blocks of VVER-1200 generation III+ reactors, each of which has a capacity of 1.2 GW. The plant is expected to generate up to 18% of the total electricity in 2030.
The site near Lake Tuzkan in Forish district of Jizzakh Province was selected as the priority site for the nuclear plant.
