Uzbekistan's men's team won the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand on Sunday. The title was secured before the final-round match against Ukraine had finished. Hungary held India, Uzbekistan's closest rival, to a draw, leaving the hosts out of reach at the top of the standings.
Uzbekistan beat Ukraine 2.5-1.5 in the 11th and last round:
- Nodirbek Abdusattorov (2762) drew with Igor Kovalenko (2642), 0.5-0.5
- Javokhir Sindarov (2778) drew with Vasyl Ivanchuk (2630), 0.5-0.5
- Nodirbek Yakubboev (2685) drew with Ihor Samunenkov (2608), 0.5-0.5
- Mukhiddin Madaminov (2611) beat Roman Dehtiarov (2508), 1-0
Uzbekistan finished with 20 of a possible 22 match points. India took second place with 18 points, and Germany finished third, also on 18.
It is Uzbekistan's second Olympiad title. The team won its first four years ago, in 2022, at the Olympiad in Chennai, India. In 2024, it took bronze at the Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary.
